Tokyo: The Natural History Museum Unveils Skeletons of Pokémon

If you’ve been an early fan of the Japanese manga Pokémon released in 1996, this unusual exhibition on the universe of Pikachu and other creatures at the Tokyo National Museum of Nature and Science might interest you. And for good reason, the establishment has made the unusual choice of exhibiting skeletons and other fossils… of Pokémon.

This museum, which is one of the most visited in the country, has a habit of offering original exhibitions that do not fail to attract the attention of the general public. This year, it’s partnered with the Pokémon franchise to bring visitors depictions of Pokémon fossils and the real animals that inspired them.

Since March 15, visitors who have the chance to go there can discover the “Pokémon Fossil Museum” exhibition. They will be able to observe fossils and skeletons of several Pokémon such as Pikachu, Charizard, or Rexilius. At the end of the visit, a souvenir shop obviously offers a selection of products including a Pikachu dressed as Professor Alan Grant in Jurassic Park.

The exhibition will be accessible until June 19 before being moved to two other museums in the country until the end of the year. To learn more about the Pokémon Fossil Museum, do not hesitate to visit the official website of the museum (in Japanese).

It is a clever marketing initiative by the museum that allows it to capitalize on the fame and public enthusiasm for the famous manga and thus attract a new audience. A winning bet that many brands have already made, such as the fast-food company Mister Donut, unveiled a collection of adorable donuts in honor of Pokémon to celebrate the end of the year.
