The Unusual Design of Bento Boxes Inspired By Japanese Architecture

Japan is a country that has always been admired for its cultural wealth and gastronomy, and this is why it attracts millions of visitors every year. In an exceptional artistic project, a group of designers known as Kenchiku Bento has honored both these aspects of Japanese culture by creating bento boxes with a unique design inspired by the country’s iconic architecture.

Surprisingly, the four creatives have linked Japanese architecture and food by designing bento boxes that take inspiration from the original layout of some of the most famous buildings in Japan. These boxes are a complete meal, traditionally served with various dishes arranged in nested boxes. The Kenchiku Bento team has arranged the food in a way that represents the different architectural inspirations, making it a feast for both the eyes and the taste buds.

The Journal du Design has highlighted the artistic series called Bento Box Architecture, which aims to offer new culinary experiences using three bento boxes. These boxes represent a Tokyo apartment designed by architect Sou Fujimoto, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa by SANAA, and a replica of the Azuma House located in Sumiyoshi, which was designed by Tadao Ando.
