This Japanese Woman Fascinates the Internet by Surfing the Snow in A Traditional Kimono
In addition to its customs and its gastronomy which are much appreciated all over the world, Japan is also famous for its traditional outfits which come in particular to mark the passage to adulthood during the annual festival of Seijin Shiki (which means “coming of age day”).
On January 9, the Internet user known under the pseudonym of Katorisenkou_ks made a magnificent snowboarding demonstration to celebrate his 20th birthday. She didn’t do things by halves as she sported a beautiful long-sleeved red kimono commonly known as a furisode, giving her plenty of grace to hit the slopes.
Unlike other young women of her age who made their way to the town hall for National Day, she rather rushed to the Takeishi Banshogahara ski resort in the mountains of Ueda town to indulge in a morning snowboarding session.
The young Japanese, who has been practicing this discipline since she was 16, took the opportunity to post a video on her Twitter account which did not go unnoticed. This elegant demonstration very quickly became viral to the point of counting more than 17.4 million views and no less than 420,000 reactions.
If this initiative started from a sudden desire, it has made it possible to put a spotlight on Japanese traditions in an original and creative way. And to continue with the latest sporting exploits that have caused a sensation, remember a few weeks ago the Olympic skater Kamila Valieva amused the internet a lot by reproducing the dance of Wednesday Addams.
