30 Fascinating Rob Gonsalves Paintings That Play With Your Perception
With his intoxicating and colorful paintings / optical illusions, the Canadian artist Rob Gonsalves, who died in 2017, immerses us in a fantastic universe inspired by what he describes as “magical realism”.
From the age of 12, he showed a strong interest in painting by creating his first work. But it was as an architect that he began his career after studying art in Ontario. However, he did not lose his passion for art and created wall trompe-l’oeil, especially for the theatre, as soon as he had the time before devoting himself fully to it.
Drawing his inspiration from the works of MC Escher, Salvador Dali, and René Magritte, he has become a master in the art of defying all perspectives with disconcerting ease. He manages to mix various elements as banal as magical to give life to intriguing compositions that disturb your perception.
