He Sums Up the Year 2021 by Illustrating A Fresco In The Ancient Greek Style

At the start of the year, we have already seen various retrospectives from 2021, such as this powerful video by artist Cee-Roo or the debrief of the most frequent Google searches. But to stand out in this digital age, illustrator Paul Twa opted for an ancient Greek-style fresco summarizing the milestones of 2021.

This rather original retrospective is above all a family tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation. Indeed, it started with Paul's grandmother who used to summarize each year of his life in illustration. In order to reclaim this pretty project, this fan of the Hercules cartoon has embarked on the design of a fresco inspired by vases from Ancient Greece.

The Toronto-based creative dubbed the process “calendar synesthesia,” which provides a holistic view of momentous moments that unfolded. To do this, he began by structuring his calendar and the format of each month according to the various international events and pop culture references put forward. Then, he followed the realization of illustrations on a graphic tablet.

Among them, we obviously find the health crisis linked to Covid-19, the election of American President Joe Biden, the seizure of power by the Taliban in Afghanistan, the riots on the Capitol, or even the record of the artist Beeple who sold an NFT for 60.8 million euros. And there is also cause the interview of Harry and Meghan with Oprah Winfrey, Facebook becoming Meta, and the series that also caused a sensation such as Squid Game and WandaVision.
