These Anamorphic Sculptures Hide A Double Message
Anamorphoses are a difficult art to master, but some artists nevertheless seem to handle them with disconcerting ease. This is particularly the case of Bruno Gouagout, better known under the name of Morpho, who creates surprising sculptures in anamorphosis which offer a double meaning of reading.
Anamorphoses usually stimulate our imaginations. But when these express 2 messages simultaneously depending on our point of view and our situation in the room, we no longer know where to turn.
And this is how this former professor of applied arts draws his inspiration. From an object, a fact or a concept which will become the central element of his work, he declines his idea in symbol. He then sculpts a more or less equivocal shape in wood or silver leaf. Then, the magic operates when the lighting enters the scene to create a play of shadows, thus sharing with us the double expression.
