After graduating from the Blanche MacDonald Center in 2014, her groundbreaking illusionary work has garnered international attention and a huge following on social media (@mimles). Mimi Choi was born in Macau, a former Portuguese colony on the southeast coast of China known for its strong European and Chinese influence. In the mid-90s, she immigrated to Canada with her parents, where she now studies and teaches her craft.

Like her birthplace, Mimi Choi draws Human Body Art / Makeup Art inspiration from a variety of sources. This includes patterns and textures from her surroundings, Photoshop digital art, and surreal paintings by artists such as Salvador Dali and M. Escher. In addition, Mimi suffers from sleep paralysis - a condition in which her mind is awake, but her body temporarily stops responding while awake. During these attacks, she experiences vivid and often frightening visions that have inspired many more painful and distorted looks on her face. However, she avoids viewing the work of other makeup artists, as she believes that this will weaken her creativity. Instead, Mimi prefers to use her past work as a yardstick for her progress and maturity as an artist.

Combined with her past and previous teaching career, Mimi now teaches at Blanche Macdonald and teaches various workshops and seminars around the world, where she showcases her iconic appearance. She also works as a freelance art director for various campaigns and her resume includes collaborations with brands such as Make Up For Ever, MAC, Kryolan, Mehron, UNICEF, Warner Brothers, and Samsung to name just a few. Ever since Mimi made a name for herself in the makeup community, Mimi's Makeup Artwork has quickly taken to the pop culture scene as she has been featured in various international TV shows, magazines, music videos, and most notably the 2019 Met Gala, where she created wonderful hum body art / makeup artwork for popular actor/model Ezra Miller.
