This animal spends most of the time in trees, where even sleeping. It is usually more active at night, at dusk and dawn, when out in search of food. A red pandas love bamboo, though unlike his giant brother also eat fruits, nuts, roots and eggs. They also have the wrist bone well developed, like a thumb, allowing them to cling to trees more easily.
They are shy and solitary animals except for mating season. Females tend to have babies in the spring and summer, usually between one and four. The young pandas remain in their den to 90 days while their mothers care for them. Males only interested in their offspring.
The red panda has given many headaches for scientists to classify time. It has been considered a relative of the giant panda but also raccoon, who shares his ringed tail. At present, they have been classified as members of his own family (Ailuridae). The red panda is threatened and victim of deforestation. Their habitat is shrinking due to deforestation and agriculture.
